Barrie<\/a>, Newmarket and Toronto residents have a right to know if their building has ever been tested for asbestos.<\/p>\n<p>Saskatchewan has set a great example for the rest of Canada, by becoming the first province to require mandatory asbestos reporting.<\/p>\n<p>Saskatchewan has proclaimed The Public Health (Howard\u2019s Law) Amendment Act, which makes the web-based Saskatchewan Asbestos Registry mandatory for:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Crown corporations<br \/>\n\u2022 School districts<br \/>\n\u2022 Health regions and facilities<br \/>\n\u2022 Provincial government buildings<\/p>\n<p>The mandatory registry was named after Howard Willems, whose efforts spearheaded the bill. Willems passed away a year ago after being diagnosed with cancer from asbestos related causes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is fitting that we honour Mr. Willems, who passed away one year ago, with the proclamation of this bill,\u201d Labour Relations and Workplace Safety Minister Don Morgan said. \u201cThis registry would not have been possible without the passionate advocacy of Mr. Willems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In November 2012, the government launched a voluntary registry for organizations to post information about asbestos containing material in buildings.
